Parkinson's disease is one of the most demanding conditions to manage at home. Symptoms shift hour by hour. Medication timing matters enormously. Falls are common. Here is how our team approaches Parkinson's care.
Medication timing
Parkinson's medications, particularly carbidopa/levodopa, work best on a precise schedule. Late doses by even 30 minutes can produce 'off' periods. Our caregivers track timing strictly and document responses. We coordinate with the prescribing neurologist for adjustments.
Fall prevention
Parkinson's gait and freezing episodes are leading fall risks. Home modifications, clear paths, better lighting, well-fitted footwear, help. Trained caregivers learn each client's freezing patterns and use cueing techniques to reduce them.
Mobility support
Care includes transfers, gait support, and physical therapy reinforcement. We coordinate with PTs who specialise in Parkinson's (LSVT BIG-trained therapists are common in Houston).
Communication and swallowing
Late-stage Parkinson's affects swallowing and speech. Caregivers train in safe feeding, communication patience, and recognition of aspiration risk.
Cognitive changes
Parkinson's dementia develops in many advanced cases. Care plans must adapt as cognition changes, adding the elements of dementia care progressively.
