We offer full benefits (PTO, health, vision, dental, 401(k)) and above-market pay to attract and retain the best in-home caregivers in Houston. What happens if a caregiver cancels last minute? Do you always have a backup?

Yes, we always have a backup plan in place. If a caregiver cancels, our system immediately assigns a qualified replacement from our team, ensuring no gaps in your loved one's care. We prioritize continuity and consistency, and whenever possible, we send a familiar face to maintain trust and comfort.

How often do you change caregivers, and do I have a say in who provides care?

We prioritize consistency, most clients keep the same caregiver long-term. If a change is needed due to scheduling or preference, we involve you in selecting a suitable match. If you're ever unhappy with a caregiver, we replace them immediately with someone better suited to your needs.

Do you have full-time caregivers, or do you mostly rely on contractors?

We exclusively employ W-2 caregivers in Houston, not independent contractors or temp workers. This means our team receives full benefits, participates in ongoing training, and is committed to delivering high-quality long-term home care, not just picking up the occasional shift.

What's your caregiver turnover rate compared to the industry average?

The national average caregiver turnover rate is 60–80%, but ours is far lower. Many of our caregivers have been with us for over five years,an almost unheard-of feat in the home care industry. We retain top talent by offering great pay, full benefits, and fostering a culture of growth, appreciation, and professional development.

Are caregivers insured?

Absolutely. All of our caregivers are fully insured for your protection and peace of mind. In the rare event of an accident, injury, or property damage, you're covered. We maintain high standards of safety, professionalism, and accountability in every aspect of our senior care services.

Have you ever had any lawsuits or citations from the state licensing board?

No. Our Houston home care agency has a spotless record. We've never had any lawsuits or citations from the state licensing board. We take compliance, safety, and quality of care seriously, and we're proud of the trust families place in us.

Is there a minimum number of hours per week?

Yes, we have a 20-hour weekly minimum. This helps us attract and retain top-tier professionals who view caregiving as a long-term career, not just a gig. By offering consistent hours and building lasting relationships with our team, we're able to provide dependable, high-quality senior home care in Houston, with the consistency your loved one deserves.

Unlike other agencies that rely on call centers, our dedicated care managers in Houston provide direct, personal support. They oversee care quality, respond quickly to any concerns, and stay in touch to ensure your loved one's needs are always met with compassion and professionalism.

Do you offer multilingual caregivers or ones with cultural familiarity (e.g., food, religion, holidays)?

Can I meet caregivers before they start?

Yes, absolutely. It's important that you feel comfortable and confident with who's coming into your home. We'll coordinate introductions so you can ask questions, share your expectations, and make sure it's the right fit before moving forward.

How do you handle difficult client-caregiver relationships?

If a caregiver isn't the right fit, we respond quickly. We listen to your concerns, identify what isn't working, and make a seamless change. Our priority is to build lasting, trusting relationships, and we won't rest until you and your loved one feel completely comfortable and cared for.

What are your rates, and how do they compare to other agencies?

We provide transparent pricing for home care with no hidden costs,so you always know exactly what you're paying for.

What's included in your pricing?

It's all part of our commitment to premium senior care in Houston with no surprise fees.

Are there any hidden fees or unexpected costs I should be aware of?

No. We believe in full billing transparency for home care services. Our rates are clear, straightforward, and all-inclusive,meaning no extra charges for assessments, care plan updates, or schedule adjustments. What you see is what you pay.

How do your billing practices compare to other agencies?

We offer simple, predictable billing with clear, easy-to-read invoices. Unlike agencies that bill in odd increments or tack on unexpected add-ons, we make sure every charge is clearly explained and justified. Our clients appreciate the consistency and honesty in our approach to billing.

VI.

Experience & Reputation

How long have you been in business, and how does your experience compare to others?

Homewatch CareGivers has been supporting families for over 45 years, making us one of the most experienced in-home senior care providers in the U.S. Our longevity reflects our commitment to reliability, consistency, and exceptional quality of care. In the Houston home care community, our reputation is built on trust, compassion, and proven results.

What awards or recognitions has your agency received?

We were ranked the #1 home care agency in Houston and #7 in the U.S. by Home Care Pulse, the most trusted third-party quality assurance organization in the industry. Their rankings are based on anonymous monthly surveys from both clients and caregivers; not based on paid advertising.

Can you provide real testimonials from families like mine?

Yes. You can read our verified home care testimonials at our website or Google, or we can connect you directly with a family who has worked with us. Our clients are often our strongest advocates because they've experienced the difference our care makes in their lives.

VII.

Special Services & Unique Offerings

Do you offer specialized care for dementia, Parkinson's, or ALS?

Yes. Our caregivers receive advanced training in dementia care, Parkinson's care, ALS support, and other complex health conditions. We create personalized care plans that address the emotional, physical, and cognitive needs of each client, making us a trusted choice for specialized in-home care in Houston.

How do you handle sundowning in dementia clients?

Sundowning, the late-afternoon agitation that peaks after 4 p.m. in many dementia clients, is what our caregivers are specifically trained on. We adjust lighting, environment, and activity as the day progresses, keep familiar routines intact, and use dementia-appropriate cueing (never directives). Our Care Manager (a Registered Nurse) documents patterns weekly so your neurologist can adjust medications if needed. This is the difference between a caregiver who has 'general dementia experience' and one who has been trained on the neurology of sundowning.

My parent wanders. Can you keep them safe at home?

Yes, and the answer is a proper home-safety walkthrough plus continuous supervision, not just a locked door. On day one our Care Manager walks the home identifying wandering triggers (exits, stairs, kitchen), and we set up door alarms, GPS bracelets (optional), and predictable-routine caregiving that reduces agitation. For higher-risk clients we recommend 24-hour rotating care or live-in coverage so someone awake is always present.

Can you meet a family at hospital discharge?

Yes. Our Care Manager can meet you at the ward, walk the discharge summary with the nurse, help pack take-home medications, drive to the home, and be there when your loved one arrives. We do this weekly at Houston Methodist, Memorial Hermann Memorial City, Baylor St. Luke's, and MD Anderson. The first 72 hours after discharge determine whether recovery holds at home or lands back in the ER, and someone whose only job is to catch the handoff is the difference.

Can your caregivers drive clients to appointments or social activities?

Absolutely. Our caregivers offer safe senior transportation in Houston to doctor's appointments, social outings, and errands. Transportation is part of our commitment to promoting independence, community engagement, and overall well-being.

Do you provide tech-enabled solutions like cameras, GPS tracking, or family portals?

Yes. We offer optional wellness technology for seniors that includes fall detection watches, hydration and sleep quality tracking, and digital scales for weight changes. These tools help us proactively identify health concerns and keep families informed, without being intrusive. We also use GPS-tracked caregiver clock-ins to ensure punctuality, safety, and accountability.

What extras do you provide that other agencies don't?

We go above and beyond by offering higher caregiver continuity, 24/7 live support, dedicated care managers, and complimentary long-term care insurance guidance. We also provide full caregiver benefits like PTO and health insurance, helping us attract the best caregivers in Houston. These aren't industry standards, but they're part of what sets us apart and ensures a higher level of care.

VIII.

Insurance & Payment

Do you accept long-term care insurance (LTCI) in Houston?

Yes. We bill LTCI carriers directly for Houston families, which means you don't front the cost and then wait months for reimbursement. Send us a copy of the policy and we'll do a free benefit review, tell you the daily benefit, the elimination period, the ADL trigger requirements, and what our billing team files on your behalf. Most Houston LTCI-eligible families get 40 to 100% of home care covered once activated.

Does Medicare pay for home care in Houston?

Original Medicare pays for home health, meaning nursing visits, physical therapy, wound care ordered by a physician on a short-term recovery timeline. It does not pay for the day-in, day-out home care most families actually need (bathing, meals, companionship, safety supervision). Some Medicare Advantage plans in Houston now include limited in-home support services, we'll review your specific plan for free.

Do you help with VA Aid & Attendance benefits?

Yes. VA Aid & Attendance can pay up to about $2,700 per month toward home care for eligible veterans and their surviving spouses. We coordinate with local VA-accredited attorneys and financial planners at no cost to help Houston veterans apply. The application takes 4 to 8 months typically; if care is needed immediately, we start now and the benefit reimburses retroactively once approved.

What does home care in Houston actually cost?

Companion care runs $30 to $40 per hour. Personal care runs $32 to $42 per hour. Overnight (awake) shifts are $300 to $450. 24-hour rotating care is $650 to $850 per day. Live-in is $450 to $650 per day. These are 2026 rates specific to Houston and our neighborhoods, actual quotes depend on hours, acuity, and specific care needs. Run our interactive cost estimator or ask us for an itemized quote after a free in-home assessment.

Do you have a minimum number of hours per week?

Yes. We ask for a 4-hour minimum per visit and a 20-hour weekly minimum. This lets us offer W-2 employment, benefits, and consistent hours to career caregivers — which is what keeps the same face on your loved one week to week. Most families start between 20 and 40 hours a week; from there we scale up or down as the situation changes.

How does private-pay work? Do I sign a contract?

Private-pay is what most Houston families use. There's no long-term contract, no cancellation fee. You pay for the hours delivered, invoiced weekly. Change the schedule at any time. If the fit isn't right in the first two weeks we re-match at no cost.

Do you accept workers' compensation or auto insurance for home care?

Yes for both, when the client is receiving home care as part of an approved recovery plan from a work injury or auto accident. We coordinate with your case manager and bill the carrier directly. Common with post-orthopedic recovery in Houston.

IX.

Getting Started

Can you start home care in Houston today or tomorrow?

Almost always yes. We hold a daily reserve of caregiver hours specifically for urgent situations, hospital discharges, family emergencies, sudden acuity changes. Call us today (713-766-0908) and Andrew, Serhat, or a Care Manager picks up. We've done same-day starts across the Galleria, River Oaks, Memorial, Tanglewood, and beyond.

What happens at the free in-home assessment?

A Care Manager (Registered Nurse) visits your Houston home for 60 to 90 minutes. She talks with the family and the care-recipient, walks the home for fall risks and safety, reviews medications and medical history, and understands the routines that matter. Before she leaves you get a written care plan with recommended hours, caregiver-fit criteria, and an itemized quote. Free, no obligation. If we're not a fit you keep the plan.

How do you match a caregiver to my parent?

Personality first, skills second. That's the single highest predictor of good care outcomes. Our Care Manager runs through what your loved one enjoys, tolerates, and resists, then we match from our roster. Female-only, male-only, bilingual (English/Spanish) matches all accommodated. Most Houston clients meet the caregiver before the first shift.

What if the first caregiver isn't a fit?

We re-match at no cost. This is on us, not you. Tell us within the first two weeks and a new caregiver starts on the next scheduled shift. Continuity matters, especially for dementia clients, so we take fit seriously and don't rotate caregivers unless the family asks.

Do you have bilingual (Spanish-speaking) caregivers in Houston?

Yes. Many of our caregivers are bilingual (English/Spanish). This is a frequent request from Houston families, especially for parents who are more comfortable in Spanish or who lose English as dementia progresses. Bilingual matching is at no additional cost.

Can I change the schedule or cancel a shift?

Yes. Add hours, drop hours, change days, no contract lock-in. Give us 24 hours notice for shift cancellation when possible. Emergencies happen and we don't charge for weather cancellations, hospital admissions, or urgent family changes.

Different question?

Ask the Care Manager who would actually pick up the phone.

You will reach a Care Manager, not a coordinator, not a sales line. Reply within two hours.
