Respite Care Options in Houston
The three types of respite care in Houston, and which works best for which family situation.

Family caregivers in Houston have three main respite options. Each works for different situations. Here is how to choose.
In-home respite care
A professional caregiver comes to the home for scheduled hours, typically 4–8 hour shifts, multiple times per week. The older adult stays in their familiar environment. The family caregiver gets reliable, predictable time off. This is what most of our respite clients use.
Adult day programs
Houston has several quality adult day programs (Sheltering Arms Senior Services, others). The older adult is dropped off in the morning and picked up in the afternoon. Programmed activities, meals, and supervision provided. Lower cost than in-home care but requires the older adult to leave home, not always feasible.
Short-stay facility respite
Some assisted living and memory care communities offer short-stay respite, typically a week or two. Useful when the family caregiver needs to travel, recover from a procedure, or take an extended break. Higher cost per day but covers 24/7.
How to combine them
Many families combine, adult day programme three days a week plus in-home respite Saturday afternoons, for example. We help families design schedules that fit their lives.
